Teachers, management team, boards of management, and all those involved in the running of our fantastic primary schools in Celbridge, this pages is for you!
Read about the primary school's role in Celbridge Kids Smartphone Free (CKSF), and how to support the initiative.
The Smartphone Voluntary Agreement (SVA), from the Dept. Education, was intended as a community imitative led by parents of primary school communities, rather than by the school itself.
This is not a replacement for school policies (such as AUP, mobile phone policy, etc.). Nor, is it intended to have the school play the role of "smartphone police".
For a societal mindset change, the wider community must foster and encourage this, which is the stated intention of the SVA. CKSF, is that community initiative. The parents representative bodies of the primary schools of Celbridge came together to have a unified approach to this, to boost its adoption.
While the school plays a role in this initiative, the initiative is community owned.
The success of this community initiative is dependent on the promotion of it. Primary school parents’ representative bodies will be promoting this, and will seek the support of the school management team to facilitate communication to parents, and positive promotion of the initiative at opportune times.
At this point, we are not seeking financial or administrative support, though that might change in future, depending on the success of the community initiative.
Instead, open collaboration about ways to positively promote CKSF, and a willingness to use school communications media & methods to promotes CKSF is all we are asking for, from our valued school management teams in Celbridge.
The school's feedback, both supportive and constructive, is encouraged via the school's parents' representative body. In advance of a formal annual review process being setup, we hope the school will voice any concerns and suggestions via their parents' body, or feel free to contact us directly.
Q. Do we need to review a policy document?
A. No! This is a community initiative, not a school policy. No existing policies (e.g. AUP) are affected, and all Dept. of Education policies guidelines remain in place.
Q. Who / What is the structure of CKSF?
A. We are an informal unincorporated association of representatives from each parents' representative bodies of all
primary schools in Celbridge. We have a charter in place which safeguards the membership of each school in the
initiative. We are not a legal entity, and do not have any formal structure. We are simply a group of parents who
want to make a difference in our community.
